Visual Culture(2008)

(2008)Visual Culture

The Awakening of Craft

Entering the industry in 1990 as an optical shop apprentice, he handled tens of thousands of frames before grasping the truth: eyeglasses are "miniature architecture" on the bridge of the nose.

Founding Visual Culture (2008)

A Rebel’s Manifesto: While the industry chased luxury logos, he introduced independent artisanal brands worldwide. His displays weren’t just frames—they were century-old handcrafted legends.

Spatial Revolution: Shops transformed into stages. Concrete walls bore time’s imprints; handcrafted frames hung like art in curated light, silently declaring eyewear as cultural symbols.

The Awakening:

Measuring a Sustainable Future with Hong Kong’s Latitude In 2016, he left his own creation, Visual Culture, embarking on a three-year deep dive into sustainable craftsmanship. In 2019, his new brand **22 DEGREE EYEWEAR** was born—named after 22°N, Hong Kong’s latitude, now an identity etched in design.

Green Philosophy in Action: Replacing traditional cellulose acetate with recyclable EVA; titanium frames retain forging marks, celebrating "imperfection as beauty" to honor nature’s authenticity.

*Rebirth Ritual*: Customers return old glasses like "time capsules." Master artisans refurbish them—a quiet rebellion against disposable culture.

*Narrative Space*: Showrooms blend Nordic teak with raw concrete. Zeiss Visucore 500 eye-testers hover like silver UFOs, achieving Zen harmony between tech and humanity.

The Spiritual Journey:

Walking the Tightrope Between Commerce and Compassion

Yunnan Optical Medical Mission (2014): Joining medical teams in Yi and Miao mountain villages. Witnessing a scalpel lift cataract blindness, he realized an optician’s ultimate purpose: equalizing "the right to see." Back in Hong Kong, a photography exhibition funded 2,500 UV-blocking sunglasses, building a "Great Wall of Eye Protection" on the plateau.

Philosophical Transformation

*The Book of Changes*: "Unpolished jade" inspires designs—raw frames hold infinite potential, like the uncharted human soul.

*Buddhist "Selflessness"*: 22° frames defy gravity through triangulated mechanics. "Wearing them feels like wearing nothing" becomes the highest ideal.

Revelations from Two Leaps

(2008) Visual Culture: Shattered luxury monopolies, elevating shops into "sanctuaries of visual culture"—proof that commerce can carry civilization’s depth.

(2019) 22°:

With Hong Kong’s coordinates as origin, it rewrote rules with sustainable materials: "Sustainability isn’t a selling point—it’s a love letter to this island."

Three decades of dedication crystallize into glimmers on lenses. Legacy isn’t the scale of an empire, but treating eyewear as an **ark of culture**—carrying Hong Kong’s DNA, eco-faith, and compassionate wisdom toward uncharted seas. There, a yet-unmade frame waits, reflecting the dawn of a new era.
